UPDATE: MN SUPREME COURT GRANTS REQUEST FOR EMERGENCY INTERVENTION
You know that fighting for police accountability doesn’t make you a ton of friends around City Hall. For over 15 years now, we have been on the frontlines of this fight—long before police brutality was in the news. We’re used to being the underdogs—and we’re used to a long line of small defeats before a big victory.
This past Monday, Judge Susan Robiner ruled against placing our Police Insurance Amendment on the ballot. Of course, one judge’s opinion isn’t going to end our fight. Today, we filed an expedited appeal, asking the Minnesota Supreme Court to overturn Robiner’s sloppy ruling and place our amendment on the November 8th ballot. That appeal was granted, and we're looking forward to a hearing early next week. While City Attorney Susan Segal and Police Union boss Bob Kroll sip champagne and celebrate their "victory" over the voters, we’re continuing to organize to protect our community against unchecked police brutality and misconduct. We are nothing if not persistent.
But we need your help to do this. We're putting out a huge fundraising goal: $10,000 by September 1st. Our appeal will cost at least that much—and likely much more. As the leaders of this campaign, we will be contributing right alongside you. Don’t let Segal and Kroll get away with trying to steal our vote: stand with us and fund our legal fight to protect the voting rights of the community. We have the right to decide if we want a police force that is professional, responsible, and insured. Please, chip in $50, $100, or $250 to stand up and say, “No—you’re not stealing our vote!”
